yes you are right that you should practice only selected questions. Now it also depends on which class you are in. Beginners for JEE preparation should not start with Irodov. Prior to that I will recommend doing HC Verma. This book will give you idea as to which question you should do and which you should not. Ofcourse you must remeber that Irodov is book for Graduates so only rellevent part has to be practiced. That again you can determine when you know the course content. Showing basically knowing the course content is important before you solve the problems given in the book.

see radhika it depends on ur talent and hard work that u can even crack iit exam with urself (without any coaching)
or u can't crack iit with a lot of coaching and test series
but in most of the cases coaching helps very much to any student helps in clearing their concepts and doubts (which saves a lot of time in comparison with no coaching)
so it is advisable to join any coaching
and yes it is not like that u daily have to go at 6 a.m. and come back at 9 p.m.
all the coachings are  held on alternative days means in a week 3 days phy, chem, maths of about 2 to 3 hours per class
but dont worry for the case no coaching ,but for this case be ready to work very very hard ,and ya u can join some test series in this case ,start  read the things with very conceptual books like physics with hcv and maths with rd sharma and ml khanna  and sl lony

Hello Getvidya Team!!
Please tell me about solving the questions from IE Irodov as I have heard from many that only selected questions need to be practiced.

@ankur: it actually depends on how much time you have at your disposal. i had personally solved almost all of them or at least known the concept behind each of them but solving all of them is a little infeasible for an average student and as far as i aware nobody could provide you with a list of problems to be solved from Irodov so i would recommend you to get the solutions of Irodov. they are readily available in the market as well as over the web. just go through each problem but instead of solving them in a longhand manner try to figure out what could be the solution methodology. if you are confident enough with the solution methodology move to the next problem otherwise see the solution of that problem in Irodov's solution booklet.
i hope that should work.

cheers,
happy learning.

see ankur the basic book for physics is hcv
so better to start with hcv and then move on resnick(its level is some higher )
and for hcv:- first read theroy care fully and then ,attempt solved examples and then move on problems
for doing problems concepts shud be cleared  and if u read theory care fully u wil be able to make a grip on the problems

Hello Getvidya Team
I just want to know which book of chemistry is good for theory. Right now I am using Arihant Organic Chemistry for organic. But for physical chemistry I am confused. Please suggest me a good book for physical chemistry for theory and numerical both.

for Physical chemistry You can read P Bahadur or just comprehensive chemistry..the book for CBSE.

do numericals by P bahadur for most of them. R C Mukherjee for mole concepts.
While solving problems always solve first solved examples..they will give idea to approach the problem.

Thanks Abhishek Sir and Hello GV Team !!!
I also need some help for maths. I am having the book 'IIT Mathematics By ML Khanna'. Is this sufficient or should I take references from other books too like 'TMH'??

hey ankur i think in ml khanna not sufficient theory is given ,means it is gud for subjective approach
i think u first start wid ncert book ,then move on rd sharma (in rd gud theory is given in each chapter )
and then move on ml khanna in the end for each chapter

You should obviously refer to other books like "TMH". They will surely improve your knowledge in Maths. Also you can consider book by "A DasGupta".

You neednot have to solve Irodov to get thru IITs.This is just a myth amongst the student community.HC VERMA,DC PANDEY is enough.Analyse the JEE 2008 papers. The questions really test your mental. So you have to very much confident with your concepts n the theory part.Strenghthen your theory and then go for numericals.
This is a clear cut verdict: the one who is well versed with the theory part have the edge over the other competitors. To solve the reasong section of the JEE papers you need to damn good at the theory! Trust me!

Did this info help you?
