ANSWER OF SECOND QUESTION:- IT IS a misconception is that when rolling, there is a tendency for friction to act in the same direction as the tendency for motion of the center of mass. at a given instant during rolling , the point at instantaneous contact with the ground is at rest. so friction acts in the opposite direction too. this should answer the question no 2 , ie. when there is no slipping, friction acts along south for both.
hc verma himself explained in an online lecture also there was a question in fiitjee on this assuming the cycle is a RWD cycle [general] friction acts on fwd direction for rear tyre and backwrds for the frnt one please tell if i am wrong or right

Gravitation cannot be held responsible for people falling in love. How on earth can you explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as first love? Put your hand on a stove for a minute and it seems like an hour. Sit with that special girl for an hour and it seems like a minute. That's relativity. ----- Albert Einstein http://www.homepages.getvidya.com/pravin
